Alzheimer's Memory Walk Team Challenge Week - Day3

Post a Quote Day!

You know, people get frustrated because their loved ones who have Alzheimer's, oh, he doesn't recognize me anymore, how can I recognize this person, if they don't recognize me? They're not the same person.

Well, they are the same person, but they've got a brain disease. And it's not their fault they've got this disease.--Ron Reagan

Thoughts of Easter

Pic of my Easter Dress :)

I can’t help but to keep thinking of my granny Betty this Easter – this is our first one without her here with us. She loved holidays and spending them with her family. Ever since I was a little girl until she just couldn’t anymore – she always took me and bought me an Easter dress and sometimes shoes, a purse and a hat too ;) When I moved off for school and such she started just giving me the money to buy one for myself and then eventually she didn’t have enough mind left to do it anymore, but I knew if she could have she would have. She bought me many beautiful dresses over the years, but that wasn’t the important thing – it was the love behind the act. She wanted to be sure we looked special for Easter morning church service – it was just a special day. She was the most unselfish person I have ever known and it makes me want to strive to be more like her – she gave completely and unselfishly of her love, time and money. She’d gladly do without so that others could have. But you’d never know it – not anything about it. It was just between her, the person she was helping and the Lord – she was not boastful about it and didn’t need any praise for her acts of kindness because that wasn’t what it was all about. She was a God fearing woman and this was just God living in her. It was only after her death that I heard some stories from people about how she’d helped them in some way and it really touched me.

So, I hadn’t had the time to go shopping for and Easter dress but I figured I better leave work on Saturday and go get me one – cause I knew my granny would mean for me to have one. It didn’t take me long to find it and the tears welled up in my eyes as I was walking away from buying it. Our church was having a sunrise service and I had never been to one before, so I was hoping to be able to get up early enough to make it and we were a few minutes behind – mainly because we had to hunt down the cemetery, but I made it and it was a lovely service.
We left the service and headed to the grocery store to get my grandson and step-daughters some Easter goodies and groceries for a good home cooked meal – a rarity in tax season! I think my grandson, Parker, had the biggest time he could have possibly had and it was good to get to spend some time with my girls too. Nanny Mills and Uncle Joe came to help us celebrate too and it was so good to see the both of them.

Parker made us laugh so much – he is just precious anyways. I hope he looks back one day and thinks I’m like 1/8 as great as I think my granny was! I look back at how unselfishly my grandmother gave to me of her time – my parents had to come get me from her house and make me come back home sometimes. And oh the memories that I have of those times – PRICELESS!!! I look forward to making those with my P.A. :)

It was a super nice day – church, family and good food! I feel like I have been run over by the Easter bunny today at work from getting up so early yesterday morning, but it was all worth it. I took a disposable camera to get pics developed on my lunch break and can’t wait to get my hands on them when they are ready ;)

Hope you and yours had a blessed Easter too :)

Granddaddy Jesse

I have lost 3 grandparents in the past 6 weeks now. My granddaddy Jesse is somehow gone now too - we were told he didn't have much longer, but somehow this managed to take us by surprise. My dad is taking this really hard bless his heart. He went to the nursing home 3-4 times a day at least to try to get granddaddy to eat anything. He was getting ready Thursday morning to go down there when the phone rang and they told him he was having trouble breathing - dad told them to get him to the hospital. They called back within 5 minutes and said he was gone. My granddaddy didn't live a perfect life and much of his life was a big battle for him, but one thing I know for sure - he loved his Sandy Gayle. I loved him too and still do.

Grandpa Charles

My grandpa Charles got cancer shortly after my granny Jan passed away back in 2001. He battled with it and lost his fight on January 31, 2010. He loved to fish and hunt and LOVED his little dogs something terribly!

My granny Betty passed away January 10th, 2010. She battled alzheimer's disease for years and years - what a terrible illness! She was my angel and still is. I was very close to her before the alzheimer's took her mind over and miss her terribly, but am glad that she suffers here on this earth no more. I will be looking forward to being reunited with her again someday.
